City looked set to drop points for just the second time this season after Oriol Romeu equalised for the Saints in the second half.
But Raheem Sterling scored a late winner to steal all three points. At the final whistle, Guardiola confronted Redmond and exchanged heated words with the Southampton winger.
The City boss pushed Redmond in the chest twice as the pair walked off the pitch and down the tunnel.
After the match, Guardiola insisted he was only telling Redmond how good he is.
Guardiola said: "I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end.

"Southampton have some super talented players, Redmond is so good one against one.
"But they didn't' want to play, they were time wasting from the ninth minute. I just wanted them to play."
City’s late win made it 12 league victories in a row and Guardiola hailed Sterling for his last-gasp rescue act.
