Chelsea news: Frank Lampard gives January transfer demand to Antonio Conte
CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte needs to bring in a new striker in the January transfer window.
Chelsea news: Antonio Conte must sign a backup striker in January, says Lampard
That is the view of BT Sport pundit and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
Conte bought Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in the summer for a fee that could rise to £70million.
But Lampard does not believe there is enough back-up for the Spaniard in the Blues squad.
He says it is clear Conte does not trust Michy Batshuayi, who was left out of the starting XI on a couple of occasions despite Morata being injured earlier this season.
I think you have to keep strengthening because everybody else is
Lampard also thinks Chelsea must strengthen in midfield to keep up with rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.
“I think they need to add (in January),” he said.
“If you’re looking at Morata there, Batshuayi has come in and had moments where he’s scored but seemingly not (Conte doesn’t trust him).
“Then you have to play (Eden) Hazard there and change a lot of things. So I think maybe a backup striker.
Chelsea news: Lampard also feels his former side need to add in midfield to compete with rivals
“I think they are going to have to strengthen in midfield at some point but that may be next year.
“But I think you have to keep strengthening because everybody else is.
“Manchester City are, Manchester United are, so to stay in the game you have to keep strengthening.”
Chelsea qualified out of their Champions League group this evening with a 4-0 win at Qarabag.
