ARSENAL are reportedly ready to pounce for Schalke star Leon Goretzka if contract talks break down.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder and he is increasingly resigned to losing Mesut Ozil, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Ozil has shown no signs of committing his future to the north London outfit and it has become a real cause for concern.
Goretzka meanwhile, who will also be a free agent come the summer, has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Reports over the weekend suggested Manchester United are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, who has netted twice in eight games for Schalke this term.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Goretzka could leave the club in January if he turns down a new contract offer.
The report adds Wenger could also look to sign a centre-half when the window reopens.
Earlier this month, Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff appeared to confirm that Goretzka will be playing in England next season.

He said: “We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leroy Sané and [Schalke’s] Leon Goretzka are moving to England and this is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game," he said.
"We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches."
Meanwhile, with the Gunners appointing Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat as their new head of recruitment, a wave of stars could follow in the future to the Emirates.
