Arsenal vs Tottenham: I’d be AMAZED if Arsene Wenger makes this decision - Alan Smith
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger must start Alexandre Lacazette against Tottenham after his ‘mystery’ handling of the striker.
Pochettino: Winning trophies more important than Arsenal rivalry
That is according to former Gunner Alan Smith.
Wenger came in for criticism for his team selection when Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City prior to the international break.
Lacazette was dropped to the bench but when he came on scored with a well-taken finish.
With Olivier Giroud injured, Lacazette is expected to lead the line for Arsenal in the north London derby against Tottenham and he goes into his first derby in excellent form after scoring in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City before the international break.
Lacazette is Arsenal's top goalscorer
I’d be amazed if Lacazette doesn’t play tomorrow
He then followed that by grabbing a brace against Germany for France and Smith believes Wenger’s handling of Lacazette, given his goal record, has been a “mystery”.
Smith told Sky Sports: “[He’s the] record signing. Top scorer for this season.
“He’s only played one 90 minutes against Leicester on the opening day.
“Whether Wenger feels there is a question over his fitness, feels he has got to slowly bring him into the set-up, I don’t know.
Lacazette scored twice for France against Germany
“It seems a bit of a mystery because to me it looks like he has settled quickly and the way he’s finished his goals would suggest that.”
He added: “I’d be amazed if he doesn’t play tomorrow.
“He’s a penalty box player. I’m a big fan of his.”
