England news: Gareth Southgate includes three shock call-ups for Germany and Brazil
GARETH SOUTHGATE has handed England call-ups to Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Joe Gomez for the friendlies with Germany and Brazil.
Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for Germany and Brazil
England face the two giants next week as preparations for next summer’s World Cup get underway.
And the trio of Abraham, Loftus-Cheek and Gomez have been given a shot at going to Russia after being included by Southgate in the squad for the two friendlies.
“We’re in a position now where we’ve qualified for the World Cup and we always wanted to look at the team and how we want it to evolve,” Southgate said.
“This is an opportunity to look at new players and a different way of playing and I think the beauty of my position is that I know the young players in the system.
“These lads are players who, right through the age groups, have been recognised as being our best players and they’re all playing well with their clubs and having a good impact.
“This is a great opportunity to see if they can fit into the senior team and they’ve got the chance to stay there if they do well.”
They join Harry Winks who keeps his place while Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have missed out.
Southgate handed Winks his debut in the last qualifier against Lithuania and he has impressed for Tottenham since.
He played in both games against Real Madrid including last night’s victory at Wembley.
England face Germany next Friday and play Brazil on Tuesday 14 November - both at Wembley.
England won Group F to seal their place in Russia next summer and Southgate is trying to blood the youngsters into the side to see if they're ready to go.
"I left Chelsea to get game time" admits Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Abraham, 20, is on loan at Swansea from Chelsea and has scored four goals in 10 games.
Loftus-Cheek also left Chelsea on loan in the summer and is at bottom club Crystal Palace but has been their stand-out player aside from Wilfried Zaha.
Gomez has made seven Premier League starts for Liverpool this term - mainly at right-back but also in the centre in Dejan Lovren's abence.
Danny Rose and Ashley Young return after getting back into their sides, while Chris Smalling has been dropped.
