Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho sends warning to fans about Romelu Lukaku
JOSE MOURINHO has told Manchester United fans to get off Romelu Lukaku’s back.
Man Utd News: Jose Mourinho has hit out at fans for their treatment of Romelu Lukaku
There were boos and grumbles of discontent at Old Trafford yesterday when Mourinho took off Marcus Rashford rather than Lukaku to send on Anthony Martial in the 1-0 win over Tottenham.
But Mouriho’s decision paid off with Lukaku flicking on David De Gea’s long clearance for Martial to race through and score the 81st minute winner – his fourth goal when coming off the bench this season.
After a flying start to the season, Lukaku – who hit the post with a header yesterday - has gone five games without a goal since returning from the last international break.
But Mourinho says fans should not judge the Belgium international striker's performances just on goals.
When asked about Lukaku by Manchester United's TV station, MUTV, he said: “I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don’t support him so much because he gives everything and I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal makes the whole difference.
“I don’t think it Is fair at all. So I’m a bit disappointed - but not with him. With him I’m very pleased.”
Earlier Mourinho had questioned the fans reaction in an inteview with Sky. “I really don’t understand some reactions. Are they Red Devils? Sometimes I don’t know because they [the strikers] work amazingly well.”

At the end of the game, Mourinho put his finger to his lips in front a TV camera.
When asked to clarify whether it was aimed at media pundits or fans, he said: “Some people speak too much, calm down, relax a little bit. Don't speak too much, speak, speak, speak, relax. Relax a little bit, don't be so nervous. Don't be so excited."
