Liverpool news: Merson makes strange comparison between Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and an egg
LIVERPOOL star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is “as versatile as an egg”.
Liverpool news: Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is as versatile as an egg, says Paul Merson
That is the view of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has played in a number of positions during his career with club and country.
At Arsenal, the Englishman featured as a left and right winger, left and right wing-back, central midfielder and as a No 10.
The 24-year-old joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day in August in an attempt to play more regularly in his preferred central-midfield role, but he is yet to feature there for the Reds.
Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the nod because he's as versatile as an egg
He has also not started a Premier League or Champions League game for his new club.
But when picking his England World Cup squad for Russia 2018, Merson says Oxlade-Chamberlain is a certainty because of his ability to play almost all over the pitch.
“Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the nod because he's as versatile as an egg,” he told Sky Sports.
“He could play in midfield, on the wing, at No 10 or even as a wing-back.

“You need players that are versatile.
“I’m a big fan of (Michail) Antonio, and there have been calls for him to be included.
“But if he cannot get ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain when he's struggling to get into the Liverpool team, what chance does he have when he finally plays regularly under Jurgen Klopp?”
Oxlade-Chamberlain could play for England in their final World Cup qualifier against Lithuania today (5pm).
