Liverpool News: Philippe Coutinho should follow Luis Suarez - Emile Heskey
LIVERPOOL star Philippe Coutinho should knuckle down and perform this season, just like Luis Suarez did in his final year at Anfield.
Philippe Coutinho scores INCREDIBLE goal for Brazil
That is according to former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey.
Coutinho wanted to leave the Reds in this summer’s transfer window, with Barcelona making several unsuccessful bids for the Brazilian.
Coutinho submitted an official transfer request but Liverpool stood firm and maintained they would not sell the player.
Suarez initially wanted to leave Liverpool in 2013 but was persuaded to stay for a further season, before getting a move to Barca.
Emile Heskey was interviewed as part of the opening of the new Three Lions pub within Club Wembley
Philippe Coutinho is here, he’s at Liverpool, so he’ll have to stay
Heskey reckons Philippe Coutinho should follow the Uruguayan’s path instead of letting the speculation affect him on the pitch.
“He’s here, he’s at Liverpool, so he’ll have to stay,” Heskey said on Sky Sports.
“I’m guessing he’s one of those players that just wants to play the game, just wants to play football, showcase his skills, showcase his ability.
"What better way to do that than come back into the side and do well.
Liverpool news: Philippe Coutinho will perform for the Reds this season, says Emile Heskey
“Yeah (he’ll perform), why not? We had it with Luis Suarez as well.
“There’s another player who’s gone on to do great things but the time he had at Liverpool was wonderful.
“He got his head down and really put in performances.”
Coutinho could make his first appearance for Liverpool this season when they visit Manchester City this Saturday (12.30pm).
