Arsenal cannot afford to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein tweeted yesterday that Arsenal cannot afford any major signings on deadline day - and today’s he’s gone into more detail.
Arsenal’s club-record £52.7million fee for Alexandre Lacazette and the hefty salary for free signing Sead Kolasinac have eaten into their budget.
The Gunners have agreed to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool in a £40m deal - but a replacement will not arrive at the Emirates before the window shuts.
When asked about replacing Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ornstein told BBC Five Live: “Arsenal’s squad was particularly heavy only a few weeks ago - 35 [players] strong.
“The outlay on Alexandre Lacazette eats into an enormous amount of their overall transfer budget - adding the Kolasinac salary into that as well.
There is no money available for anymore major signings

Oxlade-Chamberlain is understood to be having a medical at Liverpool today.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher admitted previously tried and failed to convince Oxlade-Chamberlain to join the Reds in 2011.
“Tried to persuade Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Liverpool when he was a kid, obviously [Jurgen] Klopp is more persuasive,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Interested how he gets him into central midfield after Sunday!”
