Liverpool news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain deal not connected to Philippe Coutinho - Balague
ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN’S prospective move to Liverpool has no bearing on Philippe Coutinho’s future.
Does THIS prove Oxlade-Chamberlain is heading to Liverpool?
Reports emerged yesterday indicating Oxlade-Chamberlain had turned down a move to Chelsea in favour of Liverpool, as he would be playing in a more central midfield role.
Arsenal have agreed a £35million deal with the Reds to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is set to undergo a medical although it is unclear whether he will finish it in time for when England travel to face Malta in their World Cup qualifier.
Coutinho, meanwhile, has been continually linked with a move to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have already failed with three bids and were considering going as high as £138m in order to get their man.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is Liverpool bound
That is a leap of faith. Not the judgment of performances and it doesn't affect Coutinho stand
But the Reds have been resolute, with Jurgen Klopp repeatedly telling the La Liga giants the playmaker is not for sale.
And Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague is adamant Oxlade-Chamberlain’s deal is not connected to that of Coutinho’s future.
He tweeted: “That is a leap of faith. Not the judgment of performances and it doesn't affect Coutinho stand.
“LFC keep saying he’s not for sale.”
Philippe Coutinho has been inextricably linked to Barcelona
Jamie Carragher meanwhile admitted he tried to convince Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Liverpool before he sealed a switch to Arsenal in 2011 from Southampton.
He said: “Tried to persuade Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Liverpool when he was a kid, obviously [Jurgen] Klopp is more persuasive.
“Interested how he gets him into central midfield after Sunday!
