Chelsea Transfer News: Antonio Conte not in crisis, Blues have advantage - Miguel Delaney
CHELSEA’S transfer window has hardly been a crisis so far.
Antonio Conte: Chelsea need more signings to be competitive
That is according to the Independent’s chief sports writer Miguel Delaney.
Chelsea have made four signings this summer and spent around £150million on Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero.
Conte has been very vocal in expressing his displeasure at the board after missing out on a handful of key targets.
The Blues’ activity in the transfer window appeared to affect them on the pitch in their opening Premier League game as they lost 3-2 at home to Burnley.
“There has been talk of Chelsea being in crisis,” Delaney said on The Indy Football Podcast.
Antonio Conte is still hoping to make more additions to his squad
He was in exactly the same situation last summer
“So much has been made of Conte and his disgruntlement of his transfers.
“He was in exactly the same situation last summer.
“He didn’t get the first choice targets he wanted during that window.
“Once the window closed, he reassessed and reconfigured, and there aren’t as many managers in the Premier League that are as good as doing that.
Antonio Conte is interested in signing Virgil van Dijk
“It’s definitely a massive advantage for Chelsea.”
Conte is still hoping to make one more addition before the window closes.
The Italian tactician has set his sights on Virgil van Dijk, but Southampton are adamant he’s not for sale.
