Chelsea transfer news: Diego Costa interest confirmed by Marseille president
MARSEILLE president Jacques-Henri Eyraud has confirmed he wants to bring Chelsea’s Diego Costa to the club.
Costa has been told by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte he is not needed by the club this season and his preference is to rejoin Atletico Madrid.
But Atletico have so far failed to agree a fee with the Blues and Costa remains in exile in Brazil.
Marseille have been active in the transfer market with Florian Thauvin, Luiz Gustavo, Valere Germain and Clinton N'Jie among the arrivals this summer.
And Eyraud has revealed he’s a fan of Costa and would try to sign him as looks to bring a striker to the club.
I like his character, his grit and his sense of combat. He would fit in very well at OM
Eyraud told French outlet SFR Sport: "I like his character, his grit and his sense of combat.
"He would fit in very well at OM. However, he has a complicated contractual situation."
He added: "If a player ticks all the boxes, then we showed that we were able to do the transactions.
Diego Costa has interest from several clubs
"Why not? But it [the deal] must at least meet certain conditions.
"Nothing is impossible.
"I assure nothing [to the fans] for the end of the market. It is a sensitive subject.
"But one thing is certain - we are actively searching for a striker."
