Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea: Arsene Wenger insists he will not sell Arsenal star
ARSENE WENGER has insisted he will not be selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea.
Chelsea transfer news: Arsene Wenger wants to keep Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Arsenal
Antonio Conte has set his sights on Arsenal ace Oxlade-Chamberlain to bolster his squad after Chelsea’s nightmare start to the season.
Reports suggest Chelsea are optimistic they can land the England international for £35million, with the player wanting around £150,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
But Arsenal boss Wenger has claimed that despite Oxlade-Chamberlain being in the final year of his contract he is going nowhere.
“Personally, I rate him highly and he’s one of the players who is on his way up,” Wenger said.
“In the last year, he has made huge progress and personally I want him to stay here for a long time.
“I’m convinced he will be the English players that everybody will look at in the next two years.
“I have regular conversations with the players where I tell them where I stand and they know what I want and where I stand on that front.”
Antonio Conte is desperate for more signings before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on August 31.
The Italian is looking for two full-backs, a central midfielder and potentially another striker to replace Diego Costa.
And Oxlade-Chamberlain could fill in a number of those roles having played at wing-back in Wenger’s new 3-4-3 formation at Arsenal.
