West Ham transfer news: Marko Arnautovic gets lost in games - Matthew Etherington
NEW West Ham signing Marko Arnautovic can get lost in games and doesn't track his runners.
West Ham paid a club record £25m to sign Marko Arnautovic
That's the damning verdict from former Hammer Matthew Etherington, who is still sure the £25m record signing will be a hit at the London Stadium.
Arnautovic scored seven times in 35 games in all competitions last season before signing a five-year deal with West Ham.
Etherington told talkSPORT: "He goes to sleep at times, he gets lost in games, he doesn't track his runners.
"He doesn't do things that a manager would want him to do, that's the only concern.
Matthew Etherington has his concerns about Marko Arnautovic
"But there's no doubting that for any given 90 minutes, there's a sensational player in there, definitely."
Ray Parlour too has reservations about the former Stoke star - although he too is sure he'll be a hit.
He said: “Arnautovic is a little hit and miss, but when he is on his game, he is a very good player.
“I have seen him live quite a few times, and he is strong. He goes past a player, he is good on the ball, so if Slaven can get the best out of him in the right position, and say to him 'Look, you can be a superstar here', then he could be a really good signing for West Ham.”
