The 29-year-old striker is set to complete his move from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £16million.
West Ham and Leverkusen announced on Thursday they had come to an agreement over a fee.
With Mexico international Hernandez having ended his holiday following the Confederations Cup and agreed personal terms in principle, he is now close to being announced as a Hammers player.
The former Manchester United goalscorer will become West Ham's highest-paid player on around £140,000 a week once he completes the formalities of his switch and passes his medical.
West Ham are not expected to confirm the signing until Tuesday, but Hernandez is in London.

Meanwhile, the rest of West Ham's squad have boarded their flight to Germany today ahead of the second leg of their pre-season tour.
Slaven Bilic's side face Werder Bremen on both Friday and Saturday later this week.
Marko Arnautovic, West Ham's new £25m record signing from Stoke, has met up with his tame-mates and travelled to Germany too.

Should all go well with Hernandez's medical, he could also make his Hammers debut in Germany where he would fly out to at a later time.
Hernandez's first competitive game for West Ham, though, is set to be an intriguing test in the Premier League against old club United on Sunday August 13 at Old Trafford.
