West Ham transfer news: Marko Arnautovic can't sign at London Stadium because of athletics
MARKO ARNAUTOVIC can't sign on for new club West Ham at the London Stadium today - because it's being used for the World Para Athletics Championships.
Slaven Bilic is set to welcome Marko Arnautovic to West Ham
The Stoke winger, 28, will join for £26million after agreeing a £100,000-a-week contract at the club.
But there will be no big fanfare at the Hammers' brand spanking new London Stadium.
The venue is being used to hold the World Para Athletics Championships meaning Arnautovic is having to finalise the deal in a hotel.
Arnautovic will join Joe Hart in signing for West Ham while former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is expected to follow.
The capture has been hailed on talkSPORT by former Hammer Tony Cottee, who said: "It's a signal of intent and that's what the fans have been waiting for.
"It's a great signing, a top player and he's cost a lot of money but I agree with that.
"I'm a Hammer and we've all been frustrated because not a lot has happened.
"Pablo Zabaleta arrived earlier this summer, I said we needed a goal-scorer and we've got Hernadez to solve that problem.
"Now there's Arnautovic to create them."
