Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid: Rio Ferdinand sends No.9 warning
RIO FERDINAND has warned potential suitors that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't like playing as a No.9.
Man Utd a possibility for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo
It was reported earlier this month that Ronaldo wanted to leave Real Madrid after feeling victimised following accusations over an alleged tax evasion worth £13million.
Real president Florentino Perez is expected to sit down with the Portuguese superstar in an effort to persuade him to change his mind.
Manchester United have been linked with a stunning return to Old Trafford, while Paris Saint-Germain harbour an interest.
And Ferdinand, who played alongside Ronaldo for six years at United, doesn't think his former team-mate should be pigeon-holed as a centre forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy with life at Real Madrid
He wants to get the ball in areas where he can hurt teams and have end product
"I don’t think he really wants to play as a No.9 because he can be tied down there and he can be left a bit isolated," Ferdinand said.
"He likes being able to come from the wide areas where he gets a little bit of space and that’s where he can do his magic.
"But he used to stand out wide and want to get the ball and take people on. He’s not that player no more.
Rio Ferdinand thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is better when he comes in from wide areas
"He wants to get the ball in areas where he can hurt teams and have end product, which is goals or assists, and at the moment there’s no better man on the planet doing that."
Ronaldo's future is likely to be resolved after the Confederations Cup which he is competing in with Portugal.
