Lucas Leiva to Gremio: Club president reveals transfer talks with Liverpool ace
GREMIO president Odorico Roman has admitted the Brazilian club are keen to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
Lucas Leiva is wanted by his former club Gremio
Lucas Leiva has been tipped to leave Liverpool this summer with just one year remaining on his current contract.
A number of clubs are reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old, including Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United.
And Lucas’ former club Gremio have also thrown their hat in the ring for the experienced defensive midfielder.
Although, the Brazilian side’s president Odorico Roman has admitted negotiations are still very much in their infancy.
“Lucas is a great player, it would be an impact signing,” Roman told Brazilian outlet Zero Hora.

“If there is a possibility within the financial constraints of the club, and that also serves Lucas' interests, it is possible that he may come.
“At this time, there is no negotiation.
“I talked to him a few days ago. At any moment we can make contact.
“He is also seeing the interest of other clubs. There is, yes, possibility of him coming but there is nothing in progress right now.”
Speaking about leaving Anfield in May, Lucas admitted it could be a possibility given his lack of game time.
“Many times I was close (to leaving) or rumours were there, but at the end of the day it didn't happen,” Lucas said.
“The good thing is that the respect was always there between me and the club. It will always be a good decision for both parties.
“If you relax when you're not playing then I think something is wrong, that's just my personality.”
