Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United: Stan Collymore aims swipe at Arsenal
ARSENAL should be doing all they can to hijack Manchester United’s interest in Antoine Griezmann.
Griezmann says Man United transfer is a 6 out of 10
That is the assessment of Stan Collymore.
Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann is Manchester United’s top target and Jose Mourinho is prepared to meet his £86million release clause.
United are ready to embark on a serious spending spree in the summer window, with at least four new players that could come through the Old Trafford exit door.
Arsenal meanwhile, are expected to be busy when the window reopens, although Arsene Wenger isn’t keen to work under a director of football who would have such oversight.
Manchester United want to sign Antoine Griezmann
Stan Collymore thinks Arsenal have no chance of signing Antoine Griezmann
They should be trying to gazump Manchester United to get Antoine Griezmann, but can you really see them doing that?
Collymore thinks the Gunners will now struggle to attract top talent as they are out of the Champions League.
“They have shown this time out that they haven’t got a squad to qualify for Europe’s major cup competition and if they are minus Alexis Sanchez then I can see it getting really messy next term,” Collymore told the Daily Mirror.
“They should be trying to gazump Manchester United to get Antoine Griezmann, but can you really see them doing that? I certainly can’t.
And if they’re falling behind their Premier League rivals then it’s even worse in the Champions League, where the Gunners are miles off Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“While Wenger is there, though, I’m afraid that won’t change.
“Which is why today is the day to say, ‘Thank you, Arsene’, to give him the bells and the whistles, and all the love he deserves.
“Then it’s time for one of our great clubs to wave him on his way, or upstairs at least, so it can start moving forward again.”
Wenger will learn of his Emirates future at a boardroom meeting today.
