Manchester United star Jesse Lingard eyes ruthless streak ahead of peak years
JESSE LINGARD admits he does not score enough goals but he has developed a happy habit of delivering on the big occasions.
Jesse Lingard says he is 'over the moon' signing new contract
After his stunning winner in last season’s 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace, Lingard followed up with goals in this season’s FA Community Shield and League Cup final and is now hoping to continue the remarkable sequence tonight.
He is 25 in December and says he can no longer be regarded as a youngster, despite his youthful demeanour and well rehearsed goal celebrations with close pal Paul Pogba.
“Twenty-five! When you say it like that, it sounds old, doesn’t it?,” he said.
“Obviously then I won’t be classed as a young player but still some people might think I am a youngster. Maybe I look younger – that might be what it is!

Sometimes you’ve got to be in the right position at the right time and hopefully the ball will drop to me
“I think 25, 26, 27 are the peak years. That’s when you start kicking on and you take all the past experiences into your game and learn from them.
"That process carries on, taking experiences into the next season, and, while you’re still learning, you can just carry on working hard.”
Lingard, handed a new long-term contract earlier this season, believes he has added confidence and consistency to his game under Jose Mourinho but accepts that with only one Premier League strike to his name all season – and five in all competitions – he needs to develop more of a killer touch.
“I need to score more goals,” he said. “All that will come, hopefully next season or the season after.
"Sometimes you’ve got to be in the right position at the right time and hopefully the ball will drop to me.”
