Fellaini, 29, has been used regularly by Jose Mourinho this season but has struggled to make is mark at Manchester United since signing from Everton in 2013.
Mourinho triggered a clause in the Belgium international's contract in January that keeps him at Old Trafford until 2018.
Jose Mourinho has advised Ed Woodward to hand Marouane Fellaini a one-year contract extension.
However, with Fellaini going into the final 12 months of his deal, Belgian sports newspaper HLN claim Mourinho has advised executive vice-chairman Woodward to hand the midfielder a further one-year contract extension.
It is claimed the Portuguese boss has been impressed with Fellaini's performances this season and wants to tie him down to a new deal as he does not want to lose him.
Fellaini has been linked with a surprise move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor with the Super Lig side reportedly willing to offer him a lucrative deal.
But it appears as if Mourinho will put his faith in Fellaini for a further season as he looks to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League.
Fellaini has made 45 appearances across all competitions for United this season and has scored four goals.
