RIO FERDINAND says he knew Cristiano Ronaldo would be a superstar the moment he saw him at Manchester United.

The then world record move to Real Madrid in 2009 saw him become one of the greatest players in the world and has won the Ballon D’Or three times during his spell at the Bernabeu.
Ferdinand says the Portuguese star always had the right mentality to make it to the top, even if he was a bit immature at the start of his career.

“The word superstar was made for him,” he said on BT Sport.
“He believed in it straight away. The moment you laid eyes on him you could tell this guy was always going to be a superstar.
“He was very young, very inexperienced, very immature in the way he played.

“He was a bit of a show pony at times, but he had the mentality, the desire, the work ethic.
“He always wanted to be a superstar, the difference is that he worked beyony anyone to be a superstar.
“That’s what sets him apart.”
