Check out this tweet from Peter Schmeichel about Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez
RAFA BENITEZ has led Newcastle to the Championship title - despite this prediction from Peter Schmeichel.
Newcastle United win the Championship title
A late equaliser from Aston Villa against Brighton was enough to see Newcastle win the Championship this afternoon.
And their promotion to the Premier League marks a complete turnaround at St James’ Park in the 14 months Rafa Benitez has been in charge.
Back on 11 March 2016, Newcastle appointed Benitez on a three-year deal to help them escape relegation.
The Spaniard surprised many by taking the job just two months after being sacked by Real Madrid, but could not stop the Magpies sliding into the Championship.

And one man who was underwhelmed by the appointment that day was former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
He tweeted: “What makes Newcastle think that Rafa Benitez will get them out the predicament they're in? If I were them, I'd go for Nigel Pearson.”
Fast forward just over a year and Benitez has steered Newcastle back to the big time, while Pearson left his last job at Derby back in October.
And eagled-eyed Twitter users have been quick to throw Schmeichel’s words back at him…
