Jose Mourinho stops £3m Manchester United friendly in Mexico
JOSE MOURINHO has reportedly put an end to plans for Manchester United to play a friendly in Mexico.
Deportivo Toluca's 30,000 stadium won't host Manchester United
Manchester United will head to the United States this summer for a pre-season tour in the International Champions Cup.
They will also head to Norway for a friendly with Valerenga.
But Mourinho has blocked a proposal for the club to stage a fixture south of Mexico City that could have earned United a cool £3million ($4m).
That is according to Fox Sports, who claim the Portuguese boss has refused to take part in the centenary celebrations of Mexican club Deportivo Toluca.
The report claims United were invited to play at the Nemesio Diez stadium to commemorate Toluca’s 100-year history.
Toluca have won the Mexican Primera Division - most recently in 2010.
Jose Mourinho was critical of Manchester United's pre-season plans last summer
Toluca want to celebrate their centenary this summer
They are supposedly now trying to convince Atletico Madrid to play a friendly instead and hope the La Liga club will accept a fee of around £1.5m.
Mourinho was critical of United’s pre-season preparations last summer when a friendly with Manchester City in China was called off due to heavy rain and a sodden pitch.
