The Italian agent has strong ties with United having overseen Nani and Patrice Evra's moves to Old Trafford.
And Sky claim this has given Jose Mourinho's side a major advantage over their rivals Manchester City in the race to sign Schmeichel.
The Foxes star is expected to be a replacement for David de Gea, should he join Real Madrid in the summer.
And Schmeichel is likely to be well received by the United fans given his father Peter's legendary status at the club.
The Denmark international has kept 13 clean sheets this season in all competitions, despite Leicester having a difficult start to the season.
