JOSE MOURINHO was seen agreeing with Marcus Rashford that the Manchester United striker was being targeted last night.
Mourinho: I trust Rashford because of his mentality
United held rivals Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad.
But the Red Devils were restricted to few chances as Mourinho admitted he had to settle for a point with so many stars unavailable.
Marcus Rashford, 19, was often left isolated and suffered from some strong challenges.
Rashford and Mourinho expressed their frustration to the fourth official during the Manchester derby
City players went unpunished in both halves for tackles on Manchester United's frontman, and one off the ball from Vincent Kompany saw Rashford remonstrate and shout at the fourth official.
Mourinho was seen turning to the official and saying 'He's right' as the manager tried to calm down his teenage forward.
After the game, the Portuguese suggested referee Martin Atkinson did not do enough to protect Rashford.
Marcus Rashford was repeatedly fouled by Manchester City players last night
They stopped [Rashford] sometimes with lots of fouls
"We had two good chances to score," Mourinho said. "Marcus gave lots of problems to their defenders.
"They stopped him sometimes with lots of fouls, so for me the spirit was amazing and the first-half was really good.
"We were always dangerous in counter-attack."
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out for the season, Rashford could be called upon again to lead the line as soon as Sunday when Swansea visit Old Trafford (12pm).
