Everton Statement: Club condemn ‘attack on the city’ of Liverpool in article
EVERTON have condemned a Sun article as an ‘attack on the city’ of Liverpool in a statement on their website.
Everton host Burnley today
Everton player Ross Barkley was the target of an opinion piece by former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie.
In it, MacKenzie wrote that men with similar "pay packets" in Liverpool are "drug dealers" and in prison, branding Barkley “thick”.
And Merseyside Police are investigating whether his comments likening Barkley, who has a grandfather born in Nigeria, to a “gorilla” constitute a "racial hate crime”.

Ross Barkley says Everton is going in the right direction
Everton said in a statement: “Yesterday Everton Football Club informed The Sun newspaper it was banned from Goodison Park, the USM Finch Farm training ground and all areas of the Club's operation.
“Whilst we will not dignify any journalist with a response to appalling and indefensible allegations, the newspaper has to know that any attack on this City, either against a much respected community or individual, is not acceptable."
Yesterday Everton banned Sun newspaper journalists from their stadium and training ground.
MacKenzie has been suspended over the article, which was taken down from the Sun’s website.
