Paul Walsh: Rodriguez needs to get away from Real Madrid
Express Sport understands both Manchester United and Chelsea have been monitoring Rodriguez's situation at Real Madrid.
The Colombia international has started just seven La Liga matches this season under Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
Rodriguez was linked with a move away from the Bernabeu last summer and those rumours are likely to return when the transfer window re-opens.
James Rodriguez said he plays in a more defensive role for Real Madrid
Rodriguez says that he feels more 'freer' playing for Colombia
The 25-year-old made a name for himself at the 2014 World Cup and went onto establish himself as a potent goalscoring threat for Madrid in his debut season in the Spanish capital.
But he has scored just twice in the league this season and Rodriguez admits that he feels limited in his role for Madrid under Zidane.
"With Colombia I play a little freer, that is where I try to help," he told Blu Radio.
"Instead, at Real I am in a row of three midfielders. We knock it around a bit then pass it back. It is a different role.
"I have told [Colombia head coach] Jose Pekerman that if I have to play somewhere else to help the team, then I will also have to still be able to do the good things I do myself."
