But it is claimed the Spain international signed the contract extension on the understanding that Arsene Wenger would remain at the club.
However, Wenger's future has been cast into doubt in recent months as Arsenal look set to go 13 years without winning the Premier League title.
And Mundo Deportivo claim this uncertainty over Wenger's future has seen Barcelona renew their interest in the right-back.
Hector Bellerin has recently signed a new six-year-deal at Arsenal
It is claimed Barca technical director Roberto Fernandez has flown to London to run the rule over Bellerin in Arsenal's Champions League second-leg clash with Bayern Munich tomorrow (7.45pm).
Mundo Deportivo claim Fernandez will be at the Emirates Stadium to follow up his visit to the Allianz Arena where he apparently watched Bellerin and his Arsenal team suffer a crushing 5-1 first-leg defeat in mid-February.
Bellerin has made 77 Premier League appearances for Arsenal since signing from the Barcelona academy at the age of 16.
