Liverpool transfer shock: Jurgen Klopp hints at summer transfer for star striker
JURGEN KLOPP has voiced his growing frustration over Daniel Sturridge, hinting that a summer move away from Anfield remains a possibility for the frequently sidelined striker.
Daniel Sturridge could on his way out of Liverpool in the summer
Daniel Sturridge has been an increasingly peripheral figure during the German's time at the club with a succession of injuries and illnesses.
The latest, in a season in which he has started just five Premier League matches, came last week when he was forced to return home early from their mid-season break at La Manga with a virus which ruled him out of Monday's defeat at Leicester.
Jurgen Klopp has until now insisted Sturridge remains part of his plans at Liverpool. But his patience with the constant niggles appears to be close to breaking point.
Jurgen Klopp insists he will decide on Sturridge's future at the club in the summer
"I have no idea what happens in the summer but it is not only Daniel but a lot of players," he said. "Daniel was not in training for eight or nine days because of a virus infection.
"We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible. Then we will make decisions and speak about Daniel and any other players about what will happen at the end of the season.
"A lot of things will influence this and we can speak about it when it is time."
Philippe Coutinho insists Liverpool's clash against Arsenal is a must win
Klopp will demand a response from his squad after their mauling at the hands of Leicester with Arsenal the visitors to Anfield on Saturday.
And Philippe Coutinho admitted that the defeat, which left them in fifth place looking nervously over their shoulders at Manchester United and Everton, has made the match against the Gunners a "must win".
He said: "Every game is important but we have to start winning.
"We are still in the race for a Champions League place but we are disappointed because we wanted to win [against Leicester] to get points for that fight, so we now look to Arsenal."
