Carragher: Why Ibrahimovic deserves Player of the Year award ahead of Chelsea stars
JAMIE CARRAGHER has thrown his weight behind Manchester United ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic for this season’s Player of the Year award.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 5 things you need to know
Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted a double in Manchester United’s 3-2 EFL Cup win over Southampton on Sunday to take his tally to 26 goals in all competitions.
Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante is widely considered as one of the favourites to scoop the award.
Under Antonio Conte, Kante has provided a steel to his midfield, while David Luiz, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard have also been in fine form.
But Carragher thinks Ibrahimovic would be a more deserving winner.
“With Chelsea, you could make an argument for [David] Luiz, [Diego] Costa, [Eden] Hazard. And he’s [N’Golo Kante] been unbelievable at Chelsea,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

With Zlatan, it’s more his age. He alone at United has been by far their best player
“With Zlatan, it’s more his age.
“He alone at United has been by far their best player.
“He’s won that [EFL] Cup final and centre-forward’s the most difficult place to play, and he’s delivered at 35 years of age. It’s phenomenal.”
Ibrahimovic and United are back in action against Bournemouth on Saturday (12.30pm).
