MANCHESTER UNITED plan to use their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos to keep hold of David De Gea, according to reports.

De Gea has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The Manchester United star came close to joining the Spanish giants in 2015 only for a deal to fall through.
He ultimately went on to pen a four-year extension at the club and helped them win the FA Cup last season.

Reports last month suggested Madrid were ready to renew their interest in him in the summer.
But Don Balon claim Mourinho has a plan in place to keep his star asset.
The Irish Independent claimed on Saturday that United were keen to sign Kroos.

However, the Spanish outlet report Mourinho is using his interest in the Germany international to complicate Madrid's move for De Gea.
Though United are said to genuinely want to sign Kroos, Mourinho will only push ahead with a bid if Madrid come calling for his goalkeeper.
It is an interesting ploy from the former Chelsea boss in order to ensure the two clubs do not negotiate over De Gea at the end of the season.
