Celtic star Kieran Tierney slams Ryan Bowman over tackle
CELTIC defender Kieran Tierney has slammed Ryan Bowman for the horror tackle that could have ended his season and expressed shock that the Motherwell midfielder escaped a red card.
Kieran Tierney was furious that Ryan Bowman escaped a red card
Tierney was left writhing in agony when his opponent’s studs caught him on the outside of his left knee following a mistimed challenge in the second half of the Hoops’ 2-0 weekend win.
Referee Don Robertson flashed a yellow card at Bowman but his seething victim claimed it should have been an instant dismissal.
Motherwell pair Scott McDonald and Carl McHugh both received straight red cards in recent weeks for similar tackles made with what was deemed excessive force.
Moussa Dembele scored his 27th goal of the season from the spot
Tierney said: “It was a horrible challenge. I thought straight away it was a red card.”
Moussa Dembele scored his 27th goal of the season from the spot in front of watching scouts from Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
James Forrest sealed the win with a terrific goal on a bumpy and sandy Parkhead pitch that manager Brendan Rodgers later claimed was unsuitable for top-level football.
He fears it will only deteriorate further and called on the club’s hierarchy to replace it. “It slows us down and I’ve already conveyed that to the board,” said Rodgers.
