Having eventually won round Jose Mourinho, the Armenian has fired five goals in his past 13 appearances in all competitions.
But one thing that isn't so well known is how Mkhitaryan came to be known by his team-mates as Micki.
And the 28-year-old has lifted the lid on how he got his nickname.
"When I came first to Dortmund Jurgen Klopp said, 'Listen, Mkhitaryan, it's your family name, it's too long,'" Mkhitaryan told BBC Sport.

"So Henrikh, it's too long. Let's call you Micki.
"Are you okay?' I said, 'Okay, no problem.'
"And since that day they started calling me Micki."
Mkhitaryan will be hoping to find the back of the net should he start for United against Saint-Etienne in their Europa League last-32 clash tonight (8.05pm).
