Martin Keown: I disagree with Arsene Wenger… Arsenal star must start at Bayern Munich
PETR CECH should be starting ahead of David Ospina for Arsenal at Bayern Munich tonight.
Petr Cech's best Arsenal saves
That is according to Gunners legend Martin Keown.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed his back-up shot-stopper Ospina will play at the Allianz Arena.
And that reportedly came as some shock to senior Arsenal players with experienced Cech to be overlooked.
The 34-year-old is Arsenal’s only squad member to have experienced Champions League glory.
David Ospina has played every minute of Champions League football ahead of Petr Cech for Arsenal
But Wenger is sticking with his Colombia international, who has been an ever-present in the competition this season.
Player-turned-pundit Keown feels the game is too important though for his former manager to stay loyal to second-choice Ospina.
“It seems strange that Arsenal are not playing Petr Cech — their goalkeeper who starts week in, week out in the Premier League — in such a pivotal match,” Keown wrote in his Daily Mail column.
Arsene Wenger's confirmed decision to opt for David Ospina has come as some surprise at Arsenal
Cech is the only Champions League winner in the Arsenal squad and he should be playing
“Arsene Wenger will have picked David Ospina to play against Bayern Munich either for the Colombian's form in the group stages or because he believes Cech is not at the level he once was and might struggle to play three games in a week.
“But Cech is the only Champions League winner in the Arsenal squad and he should be playing.”
The former Chelsea keeper has come under criticism for his form in the Premier League this season.
And Ospina, who helped Arsenal finish top of their Champions League group, will be given the chance to shine in Germany tonight (7.45pm).
