Thierry Henry: I would love to have played with this extraordinary Arsenal star
THIERRY HENRY has admitted that he would love to have played with Olivier Giroud at Arsenal.
Thierry Henry - I would love to have played with Olivier Giroud at Arsenal
The Arsenal legend criticised Giroud for not being good enough to lead the Gunners attack following the 0-0 draw with Chelsea in April 2015, which ended their hopes of a first title since 2004.
But Henry has now tried to set the record straight after branding Giroud 'extraordinary' as a link man.
"I would like to have played with him," the 1998 World Cup winner told French newspaper L'Equipe.
Henry reckons Giroud is 'extraordinary' at bringing others into play
“As someone who brings others into play, he is extraordinary.
"I never criticised him. I responded to a question: ‘What must Arsenal do to become champions?’
"To that I said that Giroud cannot be the only forward if Arsenal are to win the league. Some weeks before that question I was praising him. But no-one remembers that.
Giroud has scored eight goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season
"It’s been the situation for two years. I replied that Arsenal need a stronger spine, few injuries and for Mesut Ozil to lift his level to that he had played the season before. And another attacker other than Giroud, so there are more solutions and options in attack.
"There you go, that’s what I said."
Giroud has scored eight times for the Gunners in 17 Premier League appearances this season and is contracted to the club until the summer of 2019.
