MANCHESTER UNITED'S decision to axe Louis van Gaal cost them the signing of Chelsea star N'Golo Kante, according to reports.

But Mourinho's appointment changed all that with the former Real Madrid boss opting to pursue other targets.
United tied up deals for Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan swiftly in the summer.
And the Red Devils then moved for Pogba who joined from Juventus for a world-record fee just four years after leaving on a free transfer.
