Why Liverpool lost to Wolves: Danny Murphy tears into tactics
LIVERPOOL’s defeat to Wolves yesterday came about because of Jurgen Klopp’s tactics and selection, believes Danny Murphy.
Liverpool lost 2-1 to Wolves yesterday
Liverpool were stunned 2-1 by Championship side Wolves to exit the FA Cup in the fourth round.
It was their third straight defeat and puts pressure on Klopp to get a result over Chelsea at Anfield in the league on Tuesday.
And Murphy explained why the Reds couldn’t break Wolves down.
“They were too narrow for a start but also picked a team where nobody could see a pass,” Murphy said on Match of the Day.
“The narrowness of the front three in the first half was too much.
“I’m all for players going in and finding space but you need to give some width against a packed defence. You need someone in the middle of the pitch that can see a pass.
“It was so predictable.

“Klopp saw it. He brought (Philippe) Coutinho on and played him in central midfield, where he never plays. He was someone who could see the passes.
“That’s the quality Liverpool possess but when the best players don’t play…
“If you don’t put your best players on the pitch from the start this can happen, you’re chasing the game.
“When those two (Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho) came on the pitch they looked a better side. But his team selection was wrong.”
