Liverpool player’s body language is an issue: Reds have lost this - Ian Wright
DANIEL STURRIDGE’s body language at Liverpool has become a problem, claims Ian Wright.
Daniel Sturridge - 5 things you need to know
Arsenal’s iconic goalscorer watched on last night as Liverpool’s under-fire striker almost singlehandedly cost his team a place in the EFL Cup final.
The Reds fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat against Southampton at Anfield as Claude Puel’s side progressed 2-0 on aggregate.
And it was England international Daniel Sturridge who was largely to blame for missing an array of key chances.
After the tie, Liverpool fans and Reds hero Jamie Carragher dealt heavy criticism towards the 27-year-old, who has been linked with a move away during the season.
Daniel Sturridge has just two Premier League goals in 13 appearances for Liverpool this season
Mane is a massive miss because he gives them that drive past the back four
Jurgen Klopp has had to stick with Sturridge in the absence of Sadio Mane with the Senegal international still away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
And Wright has identified his impact on the Liverpool team as the big loss in recent weeks.
"Mane is a massive miss because he gives them that drive past the back four,” Wright told The Sun.
“Daniel Sturridge doesn't do that. He's not getting past the back four and breaking the lines. Liverpool have lost that.
"People might not like Daniel's body language or that he's maybe not working as hard as he should be to try and cement a place in the team.
"He's missing some very good chances."
Liverpool have now lost consecutive games at Anfield against Swansea and the Saints, having not suffered a home defeat before that since last January in all competitions.
Klopp must now decide whether to stick with Sturridge in attack for their FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday (12.30pm).
