The 25-year-old has been impressive for Barnsley since signing from Plymouth in 2014, scoring 31 goals from midfield.
And his displays have not gone unnoticed with Aston Villa boss Bruce keen on bringing him to Villa Park this month.

The Irishman’s contract at Barnsley expires in the summer and Bruce looks set to benefit with Hourihane apparently keen on joining the promotion-chasing side.
It is claimed Hourihane was set for a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee, but the Yorkshire Post say that these reports are wide of the mark.

However, speaking ahead of Villa’s game with Preston tomorrow (3pm), Bruce said he is waiting to hear back from Barnsley regarding the club’s bid to sign him.
He said: “We are waiting to hear back from Barnsley today and we hope we can announce something with that today.”
Villa have already been busy in the January transfer window after securing the signings of Sam Johnstone and Henri Lansbury.
