The midfielder has been restricted to just four appearances across all competitions this season.
The last of those came during the 5-0 FA Cup mauling of West Ham earlier this month.
Fabian Delph could be in line for a shock return to Leeds
His lack of game time means he could leave the Etihad this transfer window.
And sports website TeamTalk claim the 27-year-old could be heading back to Elland Road.
Delph started his career at Leeds, making 54 appearances before joining Aston Villa in 2009.

It is claimed Leeds have made enquiries about his availability with Delph currently recovering from a groin injury.
