West Ham have seen two bids knocked back for Defoe as Slaven Bilic searches for new options up front this month.
Bilic openly spoke about Defore earlier in the transfer window but a deal, for now at least, appears to hinge on the Sunderland striker requesting a transfer, according to the Mail.
Defoe, 34, is Sunderland’s top scorer with 12 Premier League goals and is key to their survival hopes.
