United are interested in signing former Le Havre youngster Yasser Larouci, according to reports.
Website Goal claim the Red Devils and Southampton have both been tracking the 16-year-old midfielder.
The teenager is currently a free agent after rejecting a new contract with French second-tier side Le Havre.
Larouci is said to have already had a trial with Saints where he impressed and left a lasting impression on French boss Claude Puel.
United are reportedly close to completing a deal for midfielder Joe Riley to join Sheffield United on loan.
Riley broke into the first-team under Louis van Gaal last season but has become surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho.
The Sheffield Star claim the 20-year-old is nearing a move to Bramall Lane for the remainder of the season.
However, the deal hinges on Riley's ability to return in time from a hamstring problem which has kept him sidelined.
