Jose Mourinho issues challenge to Wayne Rooney after equalling Man United record
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight at Wayne Rooney equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.
Wayne Rooney has now scored 249 goals for Manchester United
Manchester United ran riot at Old Trafford to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Rooney opened the scoring early on, moving level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for the club.
Anthony Martial then doubled their lead before a Marcus Rashford brace completed the rout.
Jose Mourinho wants Wayne Rooney to break the record in style
Rooney has now bagged 249 goals from 543 appearances for the Red Devils.
And Mourinho - though happy with the record - wants him to overtake Charlton in style.
"A more special day will arrive,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
“It was great but I want one more goal!
“He is an amazing guy in the group and we all want him to do that. To have Wayne as the top scorer in a club like this is magnificent for him.
"We play well, but not better than in some matches in which we did not win.
"Everything is built on some not so good result.
“It was a very important for the creation of empathy and a strong group."
