LIVERPOOL star Sadio Mane had a ‘moment of madness’ against Sunderland.
Martin Keown: Klopp looks tired due to heavy workload
That is the view of former Liverpool player John Aldridge.
The Reds dropped points against Sunderland on Monday as the Black Cats came from behind twice to snatch a point.
Jermain Defoe was gifted two goals from the penalty spot after some sloppy defending.
Ragnar Klavan conceded the first spot-kick after tripping Didier Ndong, while Mane handled in his own 18-yard box for the second.
Jurgen Klopp was not happy with referee Anthony Taylor's performance
I have no idea what Sadio Mane was thinking. It was a moment of madness
Jurgen Klopp was angry with referee Anthony Taylor’s performance at full-time and Aldridge can see where the German was coming from.
“Jurgen Klopp was fuming with referee Anthony Taylor and rightly so,” Aldridge said in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
“For the first penalty, Didier Ndong went down very easily. I think that’s a 50-50 call.
“As for the second penalty, it was nailed on. I have no idea what Sadio Mane was thinking. It was a moment of madness.
Sadio Mane conceded the second penalty against Sunderland
Jermain Defoe netted both goals for the Black Cats
“But the free-kick Taylor gave which led to the handball was a joke. What made it worse is that he didn’t give what was a blatant free-kick when Daniel Sturridge got a whack and was fouled just outside the box a few minutes earlier.
“Then at the other end he gives Sunderland a free-kick in a similar position when there was minimal contact on Jermain Defoe.”
Liverpool’s next fixture comes on Sunday when they host Plymouth Argyle on Sunday (1.30pm) in the third round of FA Cup.
