However, according to The Sun, a contract extension has not been offered to Carrick.
As such, he would be free to talk to foreign clubs in the January window, and could leave Old Trafford.
The report suggests Carrick is not angling for an exit away from the club, and the dithering over talks for a new deal has left some surprised at the club.

With Carrick in the side this term, United have won 13 and drawn two of their 15 matches.
He helped United to a 2-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium yesterday.
