Jose Mourinho: Why I started Jones and Rojo for Manchester United against West Ham
JOSE MOURINHO has revealed why he started Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo for Manchester United’s clash with West Ham.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has recalled Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo to the starting XI
Jones and Rojo were both rested for the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on New Year's Eve.
Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly started in their place at Old Trafford.
Phil Jones has returned to the starting lineup
But with a congested fixture list, and Bailly now at the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, Mourinho has been forced into the change.
"Against Middlesbrough, Bailly and Smalling started and I rested Jones and Rojo to have them fresh for the game," Mourinho told Sky Sports.
"It was the last game Bailly plays as he is off to the Africa Cup of Nations.
"Then you see how some things are going as some players react different to others with the accumulation of matches.
"But again there are no excuses, It’s difficult for us, It’s difficult for West Ham. We are in the same situation so at the end of the match I hope the best team wins."
