However, the Bundesliga giants were not ready to allow the tricky winger to leave, and the former Liverpool target instead joined Inter Milan the following January.

Shaqiri, 25, has since settled at Stoke, becoming an influential player in Mark Hughes' side, but his career in the Premier League could certainly have panned out differently.
"I wanted to leave that summer and had offers from Liverpool and Atletico," Shaqiri told German outlet Spox.
"Brendan Rodgers called me several times before the World Cup. But Bayern forbade me to leave.

"Inter wanted me the most. They promised me a new Inter.
"The lifestyle [there] was amazing, they were the best six months of my life."
At Stoke, Shaqiri has proved somewhat inconsistent with his attacking contributions, although injuries have impacted on his progress in England.

Jurgen Klopp is not expected to be continuing any previous pursuit undertaken when Rodgers was at Liverpool.
However, the current Reds boss may look to bolster his options going forward in January to help their title push.
Sadio Mane is set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations, Danny Ings is out for the season and Daniel Sturridge's future remains in doubt.
