Ben Woodburn made it 2-0 for Liverpool in front of the Kop
Divock Origi had put Liverpool ahead just 10 minutes earlier after he latched onto an inviting cross from the right flank from Alexander Arnold.
But Leeds came close to twice taking the lead, with Hadi Sacko testing Simon Mignolet after just three minutes and Kemar Roofe hitting the post in the second half.
The result sees Liverpool progress to the EFL Cup semi-final for the second time since Jurgen Klopp took charge.
