JOSE MOURINHO believes Manchester United are moving in the right direction despite their poor start to the season.

Manchester United have won just five of their 13 Premier League games so far this season and trail league leaders Chelsea by 11 points.
They suffered a fourth straight draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring to help them salvage a point in a 1-1 stalemate with West Ham.
However, despite their poor form, Mourinho is confident his side will start firing sooner rather than later.
“Unfortunately, luck can play a big part in football,” Mourinho said ahead of their EFL Cup clash against West Ham tomorrow night (8pm).

“We just have to keep doing what we think is right and hope our luck turns.
“The results are frustrating, but I hope everybody can see the improvement in our play and appreciate that we are moving in the right way.
“The boys are playing with better balance, mentality, tempo, creativity – all that is missing are the results, and sometimes in football you cannot control the result no matter how well you play.
“I find it hard to believe our position in the Premier League table. I’m not happy with it, of course, and there are things that we should have done better in the first few months of the season.

“But it’s incredible to think how many points we would have with just a little bit more luck.”
United host West Ham aiming to win the EFL Cup for the first time since 2010.
And, in Mourinho, they have a manager who knows how to win the competition.
Mourinho won the trophy three times while at Chelsea and has not lost an EFL Cup game since 2013.
